TEHERAN, March 18, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Hamid Reza Asefi, official spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, rejects media reports that Iran has sent a message to the United States with the IAEA Director General Mohamed Elbaradei, the press service of the Iranian foreign policy establishment said to RIA Novosti.

"The IAEA director general has not been given any message by the Islamic Republic for American officials. These allegations are wrong," Asefi said.

Following the declaration of Elbaradei, now in the United States, on the need of direct talks between Teheran and Washington for final settlement of the problem of the Iranian nuclear programs, some Western media interpreted it as Iran's having sent a message on its readiness for talks.

Meanwhile, the Iranian authorities have accused the United States of bringing pressure to bear on the IAEA Board of Governors for adopting an anti-Iranian resolution on the nuclear programs of Iran, which was eventually approved last week.
