PUTIN AWARDS METRO DRIVER THE ORDER OF COURAGE

MOSCOW, March 18, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to award the Order of Courage to Vladimir Gorelov, a 41 year-old metro driver. Mr. Gorelov displayed bravery and high professionalism after a metro train was bombed between Avtozavodskaya and Paveletskaya metro stations on February 6.

Mr. Gorelov was injured in the explosion, however he made every effort to lead passengers out of the tunnel, the Kremlin press service said.

Mr. Gorelov's actions helped to avoid panic and reduce the number of casualties.

According to the latest data, the terrorist attack on the Moscow metro killed 39 people.
