TBILISI, March 18, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The bodyguards of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, who is holding a meeting with Adzharian leader Aslan Abashidze at the moment, were not allowed into the building of the Adzharian administration, the venue of the meeting.

The Georgian President entered the building, which is guarded by an Adzharian special task unit, alone.

Rustavi-2 TV channel showed the presidential motorcade approaching the building and Mr. Saakashvili and the Georgian government officials accompanying him walking some 50 metres to the building.

Armed guards let President Saakashvili inside and did not allow the President's escort to follow him.

Georgy Baramidze and Zurab Nogaideli, respective Interior and Finance Ministers of Georgia, tried to enter the building too, but were taken out of it.

The Interior Minister was asked to give in his pistol, while the Finance Minister was taken away his mobile phone. Only after that they were allowed into the building.

Georgy Khaindrava, Georgian State Minister for Conflict Settlement, was not allowed in at all.

About a thousand of the Adzharian leader's supporters have gathered near the administration building. They are chanting: "Aslan, Aslan," and streaming Adzharian flags with seven gold stars against the blue background.
