THE BLAST IN ARKHANGELSK KILLS 56

MOSCOW, March 18, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The number of the victims of the explosion in an apartment building in Arkhangelsk has grown to 56, RIA Novosti was told over telephone by deputy chief of the information department of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry Viktor Beltsov.

"Forty-nine bodies have already been identified," he said.

The explosion in the nine-storey apartment building in Arkhangelsk took place at 3:30 a. m., Moscow time. As a result, one of the sections of the house was ruined. Presently, the main version of the accident is the leakage of natural gas.
