The council of national coordinators of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) discussed at its session in Beijing on March 15-17 the issues of preparation for the SCO summit. The session participants spotlighted the preparation for the summit of heads of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan scheduled for June 2004 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

RIA Novosti received this information from the national coordinator in the SCO from Russia, special representative of the Russian president in this organisation Vitaly Vorobyov.

He added that during the summit to be held in Tashkent important practical decisions would be made for the further development of this international organisation.

The council of the SCO heads of state is the supreme body of this international organisation. "During the meeting in Tashkent, the leaders of six countries will sum up the results of the work done in the past year and will set the tasks for the future," Vorobyov said.

The heads of state will sign a number of documents, including the final political document, as well as several treaties which should contribute to stronger interaction in the future, the Russian representative pointed out.

"Thus, " Vorobyov stressed, "this international organisation enters a period of fulfillment of its main tasks - the development and strengthening of interaction between six countries in the spheres which have been determined by the SCO Charter. They include, above all the issues of stability and security in Central Asia and around it, and economic cooperation on a multilateral basis.
