CHECHEN PREMIER PROMISES TO END UNEMPLOYMENT BY 2005

GROZNY, March 17, 2004. (RIA Novosti). The new Prime Minister of Chechnya, Sergei Abramov, said that Chechnya's social and economic recovery is his principal task.

He excluded reforming the government in the near future. "However, it takes time. The achievements of the present Cabinet will be taken into account," Mr. Abramov said at the Chechen State Council session on Wednesday.

According to him, today, Chechnya is Russia's most subsidized region. "We should stop begging and should increase the budget ourselves," Mr. Abramov noted.

He also promised to end unemployment by 2005.
