    EL BARADEI OFFERS TO ORGANIZE MEETING BETWEEN TEHRAN AND WASHINGTON

    VIENNA, March 17, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mohammed El Baradei, offered to organize a meeting between Tehran and Washington on Iran's nuclear program, a high ranking IAEA official said on Wednesday.

    According to Mr. El Baradei, these negotiations are necessary "to clear up positions of the parties concerned and to exchange information," the source informed.

    Mr. El Baradei is in the United States now and said that in the dialogue with Tehran, Washington be able to make sure Iran's intentions to develop a civilian nuclear power sector are sincere. Washington suspects that Iran is secretly developing nuclear weapons.

    The White House has not given an answer to Mr. El Baradei's offer yet. The U.S. administration said that it would agree to participate in such negotiations they served their interests.

    Experts in Vienna, believe that such dialogue between the Iran and the U.S. is necessary.
