MOSCOW, March 16, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Three metal pylons of a LEP-500 power-transmission line were damaged by explosive devices in the Moscow region's Leninsky district; meanwhile yet another bomb was defused, an official from Moscow regional law-enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

People working for the Moscow-based power network enterprise located three damaged LEP-500 pylons along the Crimea highway's 23-rd kilometer and 30 meters from the curb.

Operatives serving with the main police department and a local FSB (Federal Security Service) division arrived at the scene, finding out that pylon struts were damaged by an explosion. Moreover, they located a home-made explosive device on one of the struts, RIA Novosti interlocutor added.

FSB officers used a special robot to explode the bomb, with bomb-squad experts subsequently establishing that the home-made bomb consisted of three RPG-7 rocket-launcher rounds, an electric detonator and an electronic time-piece.

Two other rocket-launcher rounds, as well as a piece of fabric resembling the flag of the so-called Chechnya-Ichkeria republic, were found on the snow near the LEP-500 pylons, the source went on to say.

The LEP-500 network was switched off and all traffic stopped, thus enabling FSB operatives to complete their work, RIA Novosti interlocutor said.

The damaged pylons are currently being repaired; meanwhile the police continue to investigate this incident.
