TBILISI, March 15 (RIA Novosti) - OSCE mission withdrew its observers from Batumi in connection with aggravation of the situation in Adzharia (an autonomous republic within Georgia).

On Monday the Novosti-Georgia information agency reported that on March 15 at a press conference in Tbilisi Michael Wygant, head of the Mission on monitoring elections in Georgia of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights announced that decision.

The head of the mission stated that "upon decision of the management of the mission two long-term observers who had been working in the territory of Adzharia in the last three weeks were recalled from Batumi." According to him, observers left Batumi on March 14 immediately after the situation in the region became aggravated.
