RUSSIAN, FOREIGN CLERGYMEN AND SCHOLARS DISCUSS ORTHODOX SOCIAL DOCTRINE

MOSCOW, March 15, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - "The Orthodox social doctrine in modern society" international conference opened at Moscow's Balchug Hotel.

The conferees analyze the efficiency of the social concept of the Russian Orthodox Church in modern conditions adopted in 2000 and the problem of Christian ethics use in economics and business. The conference program also includes discussions on the topic "Democracy and other forms of state power: Christian estimation".

Metropolian Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk (Belarus), Bishop of Vienna and Austria Ilarion, a representative of the Moscow Patriarchate at European international organizations, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, the deputy chairman of the external church relations department of the Moscow Patriarchate, head of the Orthodox Encyclopedia church research center Sergei Kravets, and Russian, German and Austrian scholars participate in the conference.

The conference is organized by the Konrad Adenauer foundation (Germany), the external church relations department of the Moscow Patriarchate, the Orthodox Encyclopedia church research center and the Synodal Theologian Commission of the Russian Orthodox Church.
