TBILISI, March 15, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- The security structures of Adzharia mined the bridge over River Choloki on the administrative border with Georgia today, the Rustavi-2 TV company reported. The bridge is part of the Tbilisi-Batumi highway.
Interior Minister Dzhemal Gogitidze of Adzharia confirmed the mining of the bridge. He said it was done to prevent the armed forces of Georgia from crossing into the autonomous republic, the TV channel reported. "The actions and statements made by Mikhail Saakashvili forced Adzharia to proclaim independence. It was a big mistake of the president," Mr. Gogitidze told journalists.
