94.3% OF RUSSIANS IN ABKHAZIA VOTED FOR PUTIN

MOSCOW, March 15, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- 94.3 per cent of Russian nationals in Abkhazia (a self-proclaimed republic in Georgia), who took part in the Russian President's elections on Sunday voted for Vladimir Putin.

All in all, 35,000 people (70 per cent of Russians living in Abkhazia and having the right to vote) took part in the elections, the press service of the Abkhazian mission in Moscow said on Monday. 33,000 of them (94.3 per cent) voted for Vladimir Putin.

Representatives of Russian non-governmental organizations, who observed the elections in Abkhazia saw no wrongdoings, the press service reported.
