KAZAKH LEADER CONGRATULATES PUTIN

MOSCOW, March 15, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has congratulated Vladimir Putin on his landslide victory at the presidential elections, the Kremlin press service reported.

In a telephone conversation initiated by the Kazakh leader, Mr. Nazarbayev congratulated Mr. Putin on his victory, which "confirmed the high trust of the people." The leaders of the two neighbouring countries discussed further efforts to form a single economic space of the Four (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan). They also talked about preparations for the summits of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan) due in June, of EURASEC (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, where Ukraine, Moldova and Armenia have the status of observers), and of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan).
