TBILISI, March 15, 2004. (RIA Novosti). A curfew was imposed on in Adzharia, an autonomous republic in the south-east of Georgia. The Georgian non-governmental TV company Rustavi-2 reports that the movement of motor vehicles, film crews and journalists is limited all across the autonomous republic.

By its information, the decision to impose a curfew was taken last night by the Interior Minister of the rebel republic before the return of Adzhar leader Aslan Abashidze from Moscow. In Moscow Abashidze met with representatives of the Russian leadership.

The state of emergency has been in force in Adzharia since November 24 when the then president of Georgia, Eduard Shevardnadze, resigned.

The leadership of the republic which is actually no longer subordinate to Tbilisi suspects Georgia's new authorities of intending to use force against Adzharia.
