ST. PETERSBURG, MARCH 14, RIA NOVOSTI - Close on a hundred weekend anglers were stranded in the Baltic's Gulf of Finland this morning as a huge ice floe broke off the shore and went to drift. Harassed fishers cried help over mobile phones shortly after this noon.

A helicopter and a hydrofoil boat, the "Hivus", were engaged in a rescue operation near Krasnoflotsk in the Leningrad Region. The rescue finished, 16.15, Moscow time, as the last of the scared anglers was taken off the icefield. All 91 are safe and sound, reports the regional Civil Defence and Emergency Relief Board.
