MOSCOW/STAVROPOL, March 12 (RIA Novosti) - The units of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Interior Ministry of Russia completed the operation in the Stavropol Territory aimed at neutralizing the bandit group who attacked the local police twice over this week. On Wednesday and Thursday two policemen were reported killed and two wounded in different districts of the Territory. It was established that in both cases it was one and the same bandit group.

As head of the FSB Public Relations Center Sergei Ignatchenko told RIA Novosti today, it can be asserted that the group consisted of four militants who were eliminated the day before. It was surmised earlier that there were at least seven people in the gang.

The operation to search for the rest of the bandits was carried out in the vicinity of the Obilnoye village in the Territory's north. The police supposed that the militants could hide in the vast reed thicket near this village.

According to the FSB spokesman, the FSB and Interior troops units combed for militants with the help of the search dogs almost 25 square kilometers. For making the search easier the reed thicket was fully burnt.

Meanwhile the police identified two out of four criminals who were killed the day before. According to the FSB information, one of them was a 25-year-old resident of Kabardino-Balkaria and the other - a 24-year-old resident of Ingushetia. These two republics border on the Stavropol Territory. The law enforcement bodies learnt that one of them - Rashid Barikhanov from Ingushetia was a follower of the Wahhabite extremist trend and was involved in a number of terrorist acts in Ingushetia and Chechnya.

Forged documents were found on two other killed militants according to which they allegedly were residents of Rostov-on-Don, an administrative center of the neighboring Russian region. It has yet to be established who these militants are in reality and where they are from.
