MOSCOW, March 12, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Chairman of the Central Election Commission Alexander Veshnyakov has warned against administrative violations and pressure on voters during the upcoming presidential elections due on March 14.

"There should be no administrative pressure on voters," Mr. Veshnyakov said in his comments on the reports that local authorities in some regions forced people to go to polling stations.

"This is a disservice compromising the authorities," said the head of the Central Election Commission.

"Pressure on voters is inadmissible, because it creates negative attitude to the elections as such," he said.

Mr. Veshnyakov called on citizens to lodge complaints, including to judicial bodies, in case they are subject to pressure.
