MOSCOW, March 12 (RIA Novosti) - The head of the Russian Central Election Commission, Alexander Veshnyakov, said that the official results of the presidential elections would be totaled up by March 25.
The first results will be available at 9 p.m. on March 14 and by 5 a.m. on March 15 the preliminary results from 90% of polling stations will be available, Mr. Veshnyakov said.
According to Mr. Veshnyakov, the elections will last almost 24 hours. Polling stations in the Far East (the Chukotka autonomous region, the Kamchatka region and the Koryak autonomous area) will open first, at 8 a.m. local time (11 p.m. on March 13 in Moscow). "It will be 9 p.m. on March 14 in Moscow when polling stations in the Kaliningrad region close," the CEC head said at the Elections 2004 information center.
