MOSCOW, MARCH 10 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Chizhov of Russia and OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Rolf Ekeus have discussed government policies vis-a-vis Russian residents in the former Soviet republics of Latvia and Estonia, the Foreign Ministry's press department reports.

Chizhov said he wanted the situation to be considered in the light of the Latvian government's ongoing education reform. He also voiced his government's concern over the lack of progress in solving the problem of "mass statelessness" in Latvia and Estonia.

Ekeus told Chizhov about his recent trip to Latvia and of his prospective visit to Estonia.

The men also discussed the forum held March 6 in Riga to protect Latvia's Russian-language schools against discrimination. Both emphasized the need for a broad dialogue between the governments of Latvia and Estonia and public organizations, community activists, and international experts.
