KRAKOW, MARCH 10 (RIA NOVOSTI) - At a meeting in Krakow on Wednesday, the secretaries of the security councils of the Slav Four - Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland - discussed regional and European security, said Russian delegation head and deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council Oleg Chernov.

"Complicated matters to help ensure security in both the regional and European formats were under discussion," he said.

As regards Poland's coming entry into the European Union, Chernov said that the making up for the negative effects of this step on the ordinary people in the four countries is now under consideration.

At the same time, the conferees welcomed the expansion of the EU and "the positive tendencies of Poland's entry into this locomotive of European integration." The Russian delegation head on behalf of the country's leadership invited his colleagues from the Slav Four to hold the next meeting in Russia in a year.

The first meeting of the secretaries of the Slav Four security councils took place in Kharkov in Ukraine in February 2002. They decided to hold the events regularly "for full-scale cooperation of the four countries on the regional level."
