MOSCOW, MARCH 10 (RIA NOVOSTI) - In fall 2004 the observation platform may open in the Ostankino television tower, rehabilitated after a fire, Yuri Berbikov, director of the federal state unitary enterprise Russian Television and Broadcasting Network, told reporters on Wednesday.

Now new high-speed elevators are being installed, after which their checks will begin, he said. "We can cope with the technical problems. Bureaucratic problems are more difficult and take more time," he noted. Paperwork time will say when the observation platform and the Sedmoye Nebo (Seventh Heaven) restaurant will be commissioned, Berbikov said. Now business companions are being sought for the restaurant, he added.

Since the Ostankino tower is a facility presenting enhanced hazard, before opening it for viewers it will we equipped with rescue means. We do not yet know which, though there are some variants, Berbikov continued.

Arranging safety for visitors is a complex affair because there are no means in the world for rescuing people from buildings higher than 70 meters, he said. The Ostankino Tower is 540 meters high and its observation platform 337 meters above the ground.

Berbikov also said that the cause of the August 27, 2000 fire on the television tower has not yet been established to this day.
