TEL AVIV, March 10, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Ratmir Orestov) - President of the Israeli Medical Association and Chairman of the World Medical Association's Council Yoram Blashar has been elected a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.

At the ceremony in Tel Aviv, the Academy's Secretary Academician Nikolai Izmerov presented a diploma of an academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences to well known pediatrician Yoram Blashar.

Congratulating the Israeli colleague, the head of the Russian delegation of physicians pointed out his outstanding contribution to the development of world health services and medicine.

Israeli Health Minister Danny Naveh characterized the election of Mr. Blashar as an academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences as the recognition of a high level of medical science in Israel. This event, said the minister, will be a good stimulus for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of public health.

"I am very proud to be the first citizen of Israel who has joined the cohort of Russian medical academicians whose services to world science have been recognised in the whole world," said Yoram Blashar. He expressed the hope for the development of fruitful contacts between the medical associations of Russia and Israel.

The Russian Ambassador to Israel, Gennady Tarasov, also took part in the ceremony.
