    MOSCOW, March 9, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yury Fedotov and Deputy Director General at the Israeli Foreign Ministry Mark Sofer met in Moscow to discuss Russian-Israeli cooperation, RIA Novosti was told Tuesday in the Russian Foreign Ministry's information and press department.

    The sides discussed the perspectives of the expansion of Russian-Israeli cooperation and the conducting of a political dialogue on international themes.

    They also considered problems of a political settlement in Iraq and its rehabilitation, as well as the Middle East crisis. The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister underscored the necessity of overcoming, as soon as possible, the tension in the Middle East and of the resumption of the peace process on the basis of the Road Map plan.

    Yury Fedotov and Mark Sofer expressed the intention to continue cooperating in the United Nations with the aim of countering dangerous challenges, above all terrorism and other threats to global security.
