On information from the frontier service of Kazakhstan, three high-speed fishermen's boats with poachers from Daghestan (Russia's autonomy on the west coast of the Caspian sea) have been seized in the Kazakh territorial waters near the Tyuleni islands. A helicopter was involved in the operation.
The fishermen had got rid of the nets and the catch, the Kazinform agency reports with reference to Nazym Muzdybaev, acting chief of staff of the regional board of Batys (the frontier service of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan).
Only satellite communication unites could be found in the search.
Violators of the border have been taken to Aktau (former Shevchenko, the regional centre on the Caspian, eastern coast of Kazakhstan), where they will be passed to the migration police division.
Since early 2004, the Batys regional board has detained 24 poachers-nationals of other states near the coast of the Mangistaus region.
