NEW YORK, March 9, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yury Fedotov may be appointed Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, according to a source in Russian diplomatic circles in New York.
Mr Fedotov will in that event replace Sergei Lavrov, who has been appointed Russian Foreign Minister by a relative presidential decree.
Mr Lavrov worked as Russia's ambassador to the UN for more than 9 years.
