MOSCOW, March 9 (RIA Novosti)-- The chairman of the International Committee of Federation Council, Mikhail Margelov, highly praised the selection Sergei Lavrov, Russia's special representative to the UN, for the post of Foreign Minister.
"Mr. Lavrov is a highly professional diplomat," Mr. Margelov told journalists on Tuesday.
The senator recalled that he met Mr. Lavrov several times in last four years in New York. "I know that this is not the first time he has been proposed for the post of the Foreign Minister and I am glad that he agreed to this proposal," said Mr. Margelov.
According to him, rotation in the government is a positive thing. "Only in the Soviet times did important government officials leave their posts feet first [when they died]," said Mr. Margelov. He added that now there are no lifelong positions.
