TERRORIST ACT PREVENTED IN INGUSHETIA

NAZRAN, MARCH 9, 2004. ( RIA NOVOSTI). A major terrorist act was prevented in Ingushetia (the republic in the North Caucasus, bordering on Chechnya, a source in the republic's interior ministry told RIA Novosti.

"On March 8, the staff members of the criminal investigation and of the regional Federal Security Service departments discovered a polyethylene bag on the roadside in the Nazran outskirts, 350 metres away from the Assa hotel," the source said. According to him, there were a home-made explosive device consisting of 50 kilograms of the ammonium nitrate and aluminium powder mixture, an electric detonator, a Kenwood radio station and wires in the bag.

Specialists rendered the bomb harmless. Investigation is going on.
