FRANCE AND RUSSIA ENGAGED IN JOINT STRUGGLE AGAINST INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM - FRENCH DEFENSE MINISTER

PARIS, 6 March. (RIA Novosti correspondent Andrei Nizamutdinov). French defence minister Michelle Alliot-Marie stated in an interview to RIA Novosti that France and Russia were waging an active joint struggle against the international terrorism threat.

She reminded that the two countries "stood at the cradle of the coalition of states which decided to unleash a decisive struggle against international terrorism after the tragedy of 11 September 2001." Within the framework of its obligations France took an active part in the operation in Afghanistan having dispatched there its land forces, combat aviation and Special Forces.

Alliot-Marie indicated that presently "the struggle against terrorism was carried out through daily operations to prevent terrorist acts and discovery of (terrorist) networks." She pointed out that while acting in this direction "France and Russia were cooperating in the form of exchange of useful information."
