The decision was made on the basis of the Rybkin's written statement to withdraw his candidacy, which was received yesterday by the Central election commission.
The Central election commission instructed territorial and district electoral commissions to cross out of ballot papers all information about Rybkin.
While commenting on the present decision Alexander Veshnyakov, head of the Central commission stated: "If a nominee does not want to continue his campaign, nobody will force him to continue." The head of the Central election commission reported that ballot papers of voters who voted in advance of the elections in support of his candidacy would be declared void.
According to Veshnyakov, presently not more than 10,000 people voted in advance of the elections in the whole territory of Russia.
Veshnyakov was hopeful that none of the remaining presidential nominees would follow Rybkin's course of action. The head of the commission stated that "many of them went touring about the country so he wished them success." After Rybkin withdrew his candidacy, 6 presidential nominees continued their election campaign.
The elections in Russia will be held on 14 March.
