PARIS, March 5, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Russia and France are convinced that only quick restoration of Iraq's sovereignty and the formation of an internationally recognised government can bring stability to Iraq and restore that country.
French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin stated this on Friday at a joint press conference summing up the third session of the Russian-French council for security co-operation.
De Villepin also stressed the need to observe the schedule of the US gradual withdrawal from Iraq and transfer power to the Iraqis and also gradually return the UN.
According to the French foreign minister, an international conference on Iraq could demonstrate that the world community fully supports restoration of that country and construction of a modern democratic state.
