MOSCOW, March 5 (RIA Novosti). Russia hopes that the OSCE will not slacken attention to the situation of ethnic minorities in Latvia and Estonia, RIA was told in the Russian Foreign Ministry in view of the forthcoming visit of Rolf Ekeus, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, who is expected in Moscow on March 9-11.

The legislation on national minorities in Latvia and Estonia "needs to be minutely analysed by the Commissioner's office," believe Russian diplomats. "The spotlight should be on the assessment of the standards of satisfaction of legitimate interests of hundreds of thousands of people and solution of key problems of the non-titular population in conditions of mass non-citizenship and curtailment of language, educational and other rights."
