FIVE MILITANTS DESTROYED IN INGUSHETIA

NAZRAN, March 5 - RIA Novosti. Five militants were destroyed in the Malgobek district of Ingushetia (a North Caucasian republic which in the east borders on Chechnya) when the police tried to apprehend them, RIA Novosti was told in the Interior Ministry of the Republic.

On Thursday the officers of law enforcement bodies carried out an operation in the village of Psedakh on detention of members of the bandit formations who were hiding in one of the houses in Enginoyev Street, the source in the interior ministry said.

When the militants realized that the house was surrounded they opened aimed fire at policemen. All the bandits were killed in the shootout.

Among the killed bandits were Aslanbek Hamidov, a 26-year-old resident of Grozny, Muslim Dzhaniyev, a 27-year-old resident of the Nadterechny district, as well as two local resident -29-year-old Khamzat Enginoyev and 30-year old Anzor Kukiyev. The personality of the fifth killed militant is being established.

Three policemen were wounded during the shootout. Their lives are out of danger, RIA Novosti's interlocutor said.

In the house where the bandits took refuge the police discovered two Kalashnikov submachine-guns, four hand grenades, eight under-barrel grenades, a silencer for a submachine-gun well as a large number of cartridges of different caliber.

At present law enforcement bodies are establishing which crimes the killed militants could be involved in.
