LONDON, MARCH 4. /RIA NOVOSTI / -- London welcomes steps to destroy weapons of mass destruction in the territory of the former USSR, Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom Baroness Simons said on Thursday. She was opening up in London the 3rd conference on initiatives for cooperation in the field of non-proliferation and disarmament.
This initiative is the informal club, established in 2001, of states promoting the destruction of weapons of mass destruction in the territory of countries of the former Soviet Union.
The 3rd two-day conference gathered about 180 representatives of countries of the G8, European Union and republics of the former USSR, including diplomats, technical specialists, scientists and experts from Russia.
The press service of the British Foreign Ministry said to RIA Novosti that regarding Russia concrete designs of the destruction of chemical weapons, utilisation of nuclear submarines, keeping wasted nuclear fuel, as well as programmes for retraining scientists of the military-industrial complex for peaceful work will be discussed.
