MOSCOW, March 4, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom, Russia's natural gas giant, and Belarus' Beltransgaz are expected to hold talks on March 9 to discuss the resumption of Russian gas supplies to Belarus, Gazprom told RIA Novosti.

"On March 9, the parties are expected to discuss further cooperation in the gas sphere, particularly, Russian natural gas supplies to and transits via Belarus," said a Gazprom spokesman.

On January 1, 2004 Gazprom suspended gas deliveries to the republic.

Russia's Trans Nafta alone is supplying Belarus with gas at the moment under a contract with Beltransgaz for the supply of 204 million cubic metres of gas. This amount of gas will last till March 5, according to Trans Nafta. The contract may be prolonged in the next few hours, according to a reliable source.

Itera group, which exported natural gas to Belarus until February 12, is ready to resume exports. However, Belarus believes the company's tariff of $50 per one thousand cubic metres of gas is too high.
