RUSSIA'S ACTING FOREIGN MINISTER UPDATES SPANISH BUSINESSMEN ON YUKOS AFFAIR

MADRID, March 4, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - When speaking at the entrepreneurship institute in Madrid, Russian acting Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov updated the audience on the Yukos oil major affair, a source in the Russian delegation told RIA Novosti.

Mr Ivanov said it was up to court to acquit of convict company CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky and assured that the trial would be open and transparent.

During the 4-hour meeting with prominent Spanish businessmen, Mr Ivanov assured that the Russian authorities were set to ensure the continuity of the processes launched in the past 4 years. The course of reforms will not change, Mr Ivanov assured.

Mr Ivanov also presented Russia's position on the Iraq problem, according to a source.

The acting minister said the Russian ruling party's landslide victory in the December 7 parliamentary elections was a result of major economic successes.
