MOSCOW, MARCH 3 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Twelve years of Eduard Shevardnadze's presidency left Georgia in a disastrous state. The new top will spare no efforts to cure the matter and clean the country of corruption. Thunderbolt dismissals and sudden checks will go on, Georgy Khaindrava, State Minister for Conflict Settlement, said to a Novosti news conference.

The statement came by way of comment on a surprise appearance of the President and the Prime Minister in two Interior units in the small hours today.

Corrupt functionaries will be punished, and ruling circles cleaned of the unworthy. The President will do all he can, and the new government will follow suit, said the minister.
