RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT TO ENDORSE TRANSPORT STRATEGY IN MARCH

MOSCOW, March 3, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent) - In March the Russian government is to endorse the country's Transport Strategy, acting Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Yakovlev said on Wednesday, when speaking at the collegium of the Transport Ministry.

"Among the main results of 2003 is the development of Russia's Transport Strategy. In march the government is to endorse the document together with the plan of its fulfillment," he said.

Apart from this, in April the government is scheduled to consider the long-term program "Modernization of automobile roads till 2025", Yakovlev added.

Moreover, in 2003 several federal laws are to be adopted to increase investment attractiveness of the transport industry. These laws include "On the Russian international registry of vessels", "On paid automobile roads", "On sea ports" and "On concessions".

This year it is necessary to pass a government decree on federal support to renovation of the park of city passenger transport, Yakovlev emphasized.

When speaking on the strategic tasks of the transport industry, he pointed out that in the future it was necessary to connect two continents via the Bering Strait. "But this is rather a project for the 22nd century," he added.
