    TWO DRUG TRADERS DETAINED IN GEORGIA

    TBILISI, MARCH 3, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI). Two people suspected of selling big batches of drugs were detained early in the Wednesday morning by the officers of the Gori police, the Gori administration told Novosti-Georgia information agency.

    "One of the detained is suspected of supplying drugs, in recent years, to high-placed executives at the local and central leadership of Georgia. His personality was inviolable until recently, since his high-ranking clientele protected him," representative of the Georgian president in the Shita-Kartli region Mikhail Kareli told reporters.

    "The detainees proposed a bribe for their discharge to police officers, first $5,000 and then $20,000," Kareli reported.

    A grenade and drugs were confiscated from the suspected during the detainment. One of the detainees was under the influence of narcotics.

    The names of the detainees were not made public in the interests of investigation.
