MOSCOW, MARCH 3, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI). The Russian Central Election Commission (CEO) declared an all-Russia competition for the best material on presidential elections and elections to the state and municipal bodies of authority in the regions in the mass media.
"The materials presented to the competition should be aimed at the further development of democracy, glasnost, the openness of elections, and the legal education of citizens," says the provision on the competition which CEO made public on Wednesday. Organizers believe that "these materials should induce voters to actively use their election rights".
The Central Election Commission has also summed up the results of the competition for the best material in the mass media on the State Duma (the lower house of parliament) elections last December. Seventeen journalists, 11 of whom work in regional mass media, have been awarded prizes.
