RIO DE JANEIRO, March 3, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent Vladimir Stepanov) -- Russia's Audit Chamber delegation believes it possible to conduct parallel audit checks with Brazilian counterparts.

This issue was central to the meetings between the delegation of the Russian Audit Chamber headed by Sergei Stepashin, President of the Brazilian Audit Chamber Valmir Campello and Chairman of the Brazilian Supreme Court Mauricio Correa.

The sides discussed collaboration between the supreme bodies of the two countries' state financial control, based on the 1996 co-operation agreement. Russia and Brazil are unanimous that their extended co-operation will contribute to further development of trade and economic ties between the two countries.

"The sides reached understanding on updating the current co-operation agreement so that it could meet the requirements of today's relations between the two countries," Sergei Stepashin said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

On Wednesday, the Audit Chamber's delegation will meet Chairman of the Federal Senate Joze Sarney, and leave for Uruguay on Wednesday evening.
