CIS SPIRITUAL LEADERS TO HAVE A MEETING IN MOSCOW

MOSCOW, March 2, 2004. (RIA Novosti) Olga Lipich - A quadrilateral meeting of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II, Georgia's Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, and Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukyur Pasha-zade, head of the Administration of the Muslims of the Caucasus, will be held in Moscow at the Patriarch's residence in the Svyato-Danilov monastery at 3:30 p.m. Moscow time.

The spiritual leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia are in Russia to attend the second CIS interfaith peace forum, which will probably be the main subject of discussion at the Svyato-Danilov monastery.

Taking part in the forum are about 300 people, including clergymen from all CIS countries and five leading religious traditions: Orthodoxy, Armenian-Gregorian church, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism.

The aim of the forum is to coordinate efforts in strengthening peace in the CIS space, and jointly combat terrorism and other challenges of the present time. One of the main results of the forum is to set up a standing CIS Interfaith Council.
