MOSCOW, March 2, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russian acting Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and his Swedish counterpart Laila Freivalds discussed further political dialogue between the two countries.

"Russia and Sweden aim at close cooperation in the spirit of the agreements achieved in St. Petersburg in May 2003," Mr. Ivanov said, following the talks.

He informed Laila Freivalds on the developments in the Baltic states and Chechnya. "We agreed to discuss these issues in the future," Mr. Ivanov said.

According to Laila Freivalds, Sweden is interested in the expansion of economic, anti-criminal and ecological cooperation with Russia.

I assessed the detailed information given by the Russian side on many issues, in particular, payments of compensations to Chechen residents, she said.
