MOSCOW, March 2, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Russian border-guards have discovered more than 46 kg of heroin in a cache on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, reports the public relations centre of the frontier department of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB).

Two sacks containing 40 small packets of heroin weighing a total of some 46.5 kilos were found in a cache on the Moscow border-guard unit's section of the Tajik-Afghan border, reads the centre's press-release.

The finding was brought to the local border-guard department and will be destroyed in due procedure in the near future, reads the press-release.

"Russian border-guards have seized over 180 kilos of drugs, mainly heroin, on the Tajik-Afghan border since the year's start," says the centre.

A total of over 5 tons of illicit drugs were confiscated on the border in 2003, according to FSB.
