RUSSIA'S COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES BROUGHT IT $13 BILLION IN REVENUES IN 2003

MOSCOW, March 2 (RIA Novosti) - The overall revenues of Russia's communications and information technology sector amounted in 2003 to more than 387 billion rubles (more than $13 billion), which is nearly 42 per cent above last year's index, Russia's acting Communications and Information Technologies Minister Leonid Reiman told a final meeting of the ministry's board.

"Last year the branch's organizations rendered the population communication services worth 183.3 billion rubles, which is above the similar figure for 2002 by almost 55 per cent," Reiman noted.

According to him, contributions to the consolidated budget from the communications sector amounted to more than 80 billion rubles, and domestic investments in the branch increased by almost 50 per cent, exceeding 78.7 billion rubles, he said.
