BRUSSELS, March 1, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- The European Commission views the nomination of Mikhail Fradkov for the post of Prime Minister as a positive sign, said spokesman Rejo Kempinen.

"The Commission links this nomination with the development of EU-Russia relations and simplification of contacts at the bilateral level," Mr. Kempinen said at a briefing in Brussels on Monday. He also said that EC Chairman Romano Prodi congratulated Mikhail Fradkov on his nomination in the morning today.

Mikhail Fradkov was Russia's permanent representative at the EU until President Putin nominated him for Prime Minister today.
