RUSSIA'S DEFENSE MINISTRY STARTS ACTIVE WORK TO CONCLUDE CONTRACTS ON DEFENSE ORDERS

MOSCOW, March 1, 2004 (RIA Novosti) -- Russia's Defense Ministry has started active work to conclude contracts within the framework of the state defense order.

Sergei Ivanov, Russia's acting Defense Minister, disclosed this Monday, at the President's meeting with members of the government.

"By the end of March, the law on the state defense order, which provides for tenders, is to be applied," Ivanov said.

He recalled that 140 billion roubles ($1 approximately - 29 roubles) was earmarked for 2004: the enterprises should know what sums they will receive and for what purpose.
