    JAPAN GIVES A $1.5 MILLION GRANT TO TAJIKISTAN

    DUSHANBE, March 1 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - The Japanese government has given a $1.5 million grant to Tajikistan for taking measures to improve mother and child care in that Central Asian republic. An agreement to this effect has been signed in Dushanbe Monday.

    The grant has been given to Tajikistan through UNICEF. It will be used to improve medical care of women and children in the faraway areas of the republic.

    Meanwhile, Japan has become a leading donor country in the program aimed at improving health care in Tajikistan. The program is being carried out by UNICEF jointly with the Tajik ministry of public health.
