    MALTA'S PRESIDENT TO VISIT ST. PETERSBURG

    ST. PETERSBURG, March 1 (RIA Novosti - Northwest correspondent) - President Guido de Marco and his wife are arriving in St. Petersburg on a visit on March 1.

    As the city administration said, laying flowers at the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad (the former name of St. Petersburg) in Victory Square and a visit to the State Hermitage are planned in the distinguished guest's program for this day.

    A ceremony of conferring the title of honorary doctor of St. Petersburg State University upon Guido de Marco will be held in this school of higher learning on Tuesday. Then the president of Malta will deliver a lecture on the current integration processes in Europe - Malta in the Process of European Integration: The Role of Small and Medium-Size Countries in Setting Up a System of International Relations - at the university's faculty of international relations.

    The second day of the visit will see a meeting of the president of Malta with St. Petersburg governor Valentina Matviyenko who will present the medal In Memory of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg to the distinguished guest.

    Besides that, Guido de Marco and his wife will visit Mikhailovsky Castle where they will participate in the opining of the exhibition 700 Years of Maltese History.

    On the following day the president will visit palaces-museums in famous St. Petersburg suburbs Pushkin and Pavlovsk.

    The visit will end on Wednesday night. The president of Malta will leave for his country on that same day.
