TBILISI, 28 February, 2004. /RIA Novosti correspondent/. - Russian peacekeepers stationed in the area of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict (Abkhazia is a self-proclaimed republic on the territory of Georgia) resumed on Saturday their patrol operations in Georgia's lower Kodory Gorge.

A spokesperson for the Georgian President's envoy in the Kodori Gorge told RIA Novosti that the main task the peacekeepers' patrol units must carry out at the current stage is to check serviceability of the roads leading to their outpost 105 in the lower part of the Gorge.

As a result of the 2003 floods, practically all motor roads and bridges in the area are out of order and need urgent repair.

Russian peacekeepers as well as UN military observers halted their patrolling operations on June 5 last year when three UN observers and their Georgian interpreter were kidnapped during a patrol mission.
