MOSCOW, February 26, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Natalia Kurova). French film star Catherine Deneuve arrives in Moscow on Thursday to see the presentation of the book dedicated to her. The book is written by Russian film critic Andrei Plakhov.

"This is my second book about Catherine Deneuve [the first was published in 1989]. I have been following the work of this remarkable actress and even corresponded with her," Plakhov told RIA Novosti.

I believe that Deneuve is closely connected with all the main trends in cinema of the second half of the 20th century. She has made a great contribution into cinema development, the film critic said.

"From Umbrellas of Cherbourg to 8 Women" is the title of the new book. The book consist of 11 chapters, each of them having its plot and setting - Paris, Rome, London. The main characters are major film directors and actors with whom Catherine Deneuve worked.

"I regard this book as a multi-act play about the life and work of the remarkable French actress. Unlike the first book which I wrote on the basis of my correspondence acquaintance with Deneuve, this book includes fragments from my interviews with the actress and my personal impressions," Plakhov noted.

According to him, Catherine Deneuve has not seen the edition yet and Plakhov will hand her the book at the presentation.

The Russian language printout of the book is 5,000 copies. The edition is likely to be translated into foreign languages.
